Goldeckhütte

The Goldeckhütte sits at 1,945m on the eastern flank of the Goldeckgruppe, between the Möll and Isel valleys in southern Carinthia. Reach it from Wörth an der Möll via the Wörthertal valley in 2.5 hours on a well-marked path that gains 900m steadily. The direct approach from Lienz is more arduous—allow 4 hours and 1,200m elevation gain. Both routes are straightforward hiking rather than scrambling; neither requires special equipment. The hut sits at the junction of several ridge traverses and valley routes, making it a natural pause point on longer hut-to-hut treks across the Hohe Tauern region.
This OeAV hut sleeps around 40 people in dormitory beds and a few private rooms. Meals are hearty: expect schnitzel, stews, and substantial mountain fare. The water supply is reliable. Showers are available. The hut runs year-round but is busiest July through September and during school holidays. Winter access requires avalanche training and equipment; approach the hut manager about conditions before setting out in colder months.
Book 6 weeks ahead for July and August weekends; shoulder season (May–June, September–October) is considerably easier. Contact the hut directly by phone or email for current rates and availability. The manager can advise on weather windows for ridge crossings and winter viability.
