Neue Reichenberger Hut

Neue Reichenberger Hütte stands at 2,586m in the Rieserferner-Häuser range in East Tyrol. Reach it from the Virgental valley via the Stanig Alm route, a straightforward 2.5–3 hour climb gaining roughly 800m elevation. The hut sits on a shoulder above the Stanig Alm pasture and makes a natural base for traverses across the Rieserfernergruppe or day walks to nearby peaks and tarns. Access is reliable in summer; the path is well-marked and non-technical.

The hut has 54 beds in mostly multi-person rooms. Full-board and half-board meals are available; the kitchen serves traditional Tyrolean fare using regional ingredients. Water is sourced on-site. The hut is staffed from mid-June through September, with extended seasons possible in good conditions. Cell reception is weak; bring offline maps. Heating and hot water are reliable. The OeAV Sektion Reichenberg manages operations and maintains the access path.

The hut operates on a first-come, first-served basis outside reservations, but always call ahead if planning to stay, especially on weekends. The warden will advise on conditions and can arrange collections from Stanig Alm if weather turns poor.
