The Neue Reichenberger Hütte sits at 2,586 m in the heart of the Lasörling group (part of the wider Venediger group) in East Tyrol, on the shore of the small Bödensee mountain lake. Run by the Reichenberg section of the Austrian Alpine Club (ÖAV), it is a classic overnight base for walkers on the Lasörling Höhenweg high route and for climbers heading up peaks such as the Gösleswand, Finsterkarspitze and Reichenberger Spitze. From the Bachlenke just above the hut there is a striking view across to the Großvenediger. The hut offers 24 beds in rooms plus 28 places in the Matratzenlager (mattress dormitory), and serves meals and drinks to both overnight guests and day walkers. It opens for the summer season only, roughly from mid/late June to the end of September depending on snow and weather; there is no winter service, only an unequipped emergency shelter. The classic approaches are long day walks of about four hours: from St. Jakob in Defereggen to the south, or from Hinterbichl in the Virgental to the north. Both involve well over 1,300 m of ascent, so a reasonable level of fitness is needed, though the routes are non-technical marked mountain paths.
