Moisesalm

Moisesalm sits at 1,620m in the Salzburg Alps, above the Saalach valley south of Lofer. Reach it from the village of St. Martin by Lofer via the Schießling valley—a steady 2-hour walk gaining 600m through mixed forest. In summer, a rough road shortens the approach to 45 minutes from the parking area near Schießling. The hut works as a base for day walks to nearby peaks like the Reißeck (1,826m) or as a refueling stop on longer ridge traverses across the northern limestone belt.
Moisesalm is a traditional alpine dairy farm operating as a simple mountain hut. It sleeps around 25 people in mixed dormitories and a few double rooms. Meals focus on hearty Austrian fare—expect dumplings, schnitzel, and good coffee. The hut has no hot showers but provides washbasins and basic toilet facilities. Opening runs from late May through October, with peak traffic June through September when families and weekend hikers pack the rooms.
Book directly by phone or email at least 2 weeks ahead for summer weekends. July and August fill quickly. The hut prefers advance payment and requests groups of 8+ give a month's notice. Winter closure is firm—the road becomes impassable and the facility shuts completely. Cell reception is unreliable; call ahead if you're delayed on the walk up.
