The Thomannbauerhütte is a private self-catering hut (Selbstversorgerhütte) at about 1,697 m in the Nockberge, in the quiet Innernöring valley basin in the municipality of Krems in Kärnten (near Eisentratten and Gmünd), within the Biosphärenpark Nockberge. It is surrounded by the gentle grassy 'Nocken' that make this range a popular family-hiking area. Rather than a staffed mountain refuge, it is a former alpine farmhouse rented out to one group at a time. The hut has a large parlour with a tiled stove, a well-equipped kitchen with a wood-fired masonry stove and baking oven, hot running water, a washroom with two showers and two toilets, and five bedrooms sleeping two to four people each. Power comes from the hut's own small generating plant, and hot water is solar-heated. Extras include a trout pond, a small bowling alley, a children's playground, board games and an alpine library. It is reached by car: from the Gmünd motorway exit, drive via Eisentratten and about 12 km up the Nöringgraben to the hut, making it an easy, comfortable base for undemanding walks in the Nockberge.
