Graf Meran Haus

Graf Meran Haus sits at 1,836m in the Gleinalpe range of Styria, on the main ridge walk between Stübming and the Hochreichart. The hut is a 3.5-hour hike from Stübming to the south or 2.5 hours from Deutsch-Goritz to the north. Most walkers approach via the Gleinalm valley, which offers the gentlest ascent. The ridge location means exposed terrain in bad weather, so check forecasts before committing to the final push to the hut.
The OeTK-managed hut has 40 beds split between multi-share dorms and a few double rooms. Half-board is standard: expect simple but filling food suited to ridge walking. The kitchen serves breakfast from 7am and dinner from 6pm. There's no shower (this is a working ridge hut), but water is reliable from the mountain spring. The hut opens early May to late October, with staffing dependent on weather in shoulder months—phone ahead if visiting outside July-August. Mobile reception is patchy.
Book directly with the hut by phone or email at least 4-6 weeks ahead for July and August weekends. September is quieter and often warmer. The hut fills fast on clear weekends because it's a natural overnight stop on multi-day Gleinalm traverses. Solo hikers and small groups should find beds outside school holidays. Winter closing means late October is genuinely your last chance until May.
