Guttenbergwarte
2.5About
The hut is managed by the Austrian Alpine Club (OeAV) and holds 40 people in mixed dorms. Meals include a substantial breakfast, three-course dinner, and packed lunches on request. Water is sourced from a mountain spring; the kitchen runs on bottled gas. Toilets are outside. The hut opens late May through late September, weather permitting. There's no warden; it operates on an honour system with payment boxes and a guest book.
Book through the OeAV Styria office or contact the hut directly via the Sölk valley tourist office. July and August weekends fill quickly—aim for midweek or shoulder season (June, September). Cash payment is preferred; bring sufficient euros. The hut is unheated in shoulder season, so pack a warm sleeping bag even in early June.
