Schönleitenhaus
2.5About
The hut sleeps around 30 people in dorm rooms and a handful of private beds. Meals are standard Austrian alpine fare: hot dinners, packed lunches, coffee and cake in the afternoon. Water comes from a spring; toilets are basic but functional. The hut operates from June through September, closing during heavy snow. Staffing depends on season—check ahead for May and early October when it may be unstaffed. The Austrian Alpine Club (OeAV) manages the hut and provides updates on access conditions.
Book directly with the hut during the season. July and August fill quickly; reserve 4–6 weeks ahead for these months. June and September are quieter but still busy on weekends. Contact via the OeAV or phone ahead (numbers available through regional tourist offices). If you're part of an Alpine club, membership cards may reduce rates slightly. The hut accepts cash and sometimes cards, but bring cash as a backup in case of payment system issues.
