Spechtenseehütte
3.9About
The hut is a simple, traditional Alpine Club hut with 50 beds in mixed dormitories and a handful of private rooms. The small kitchen serves hearty Austrian meals and basic packed lunches. Water comes from the lake; heating is wood-fired. There's no electricity in rooms. Open year-round but staffing is limited November through March—contact ahead if visiting off-season. The atmosphere is quiet and workmanlike, popular with local OeAV members and those avoiding the crowds of higher, more famous huts.
Book direct with the OeAV Sektion Stainach. Summer weekends fill quickly, especially July and August; book 4–6 weeks ahead for peak season. Off-season visits require advance notice. The hut takes cash and bank transfers. Winter access depends on snow and avalanche conditions—confirm passability with the managing section before attempting the approach.
