Ascher Hut

Ascher Hütte sits at 2,256m on the Puittal valley floor in the Zillertal Alps, Tyrol. Reach it from the village of Schwendau (near Mayrhofen) by hiking up the Puittal—allow 3.5 to 4 hours for the 900m ascent on a well-marked trail. The approach is steady and manageable, making this a good base for multiday trips in the Zillertal. From the hut you can climb peaks like Großer Löffler (3,379m) or traverse toward the Lapenscharte and beyond.
The hut is managed by DAV Sektion Pfaffenhofen-Asch and operates year-round with 60 beds in 4 to 6-bed rooms. They serve dinners and breakfast using local ingredients, plus packed lunches to order. The hut has a working kitchen, hot showers (for a small fee), and basic drying facilities. Winter access requires avalanche awareness and appropriate gear; check conditions before traveling between November and April.
