Kobler Alm

Kobler Alm sits at 1,921m in the Zillertal valley, Tyrol. Most hikers reach it from Mayrhofen in 3–4 hours via the Pöll district and Waldlust. The trail climbs steadily through forest before opening onto alpine meadow. Direct access from Schilcherfleck is shorter—roughly 2 hours—but steeper. This is a working dairy farm as much as a hut, so the character is authentic mountain agriculture, not alpine hospitality theatre.

The hut sleeps around 40 people in mixed dorms and small rooms. Meals focus on what's produced locally: their own cheese and dairy products feature heavily. Half-board (bed and two meals) is standard. The kitchen caters to walkers with simple, filling food. Water comes from the spring. There's no electricity beyond essential uses, and no shower. The hut operates year-round, though conditions above 1,900m in winter are serious—come prepared or come in summer. The OeAV maintains the hut.

Book direct with the hut by phone or email, not through an online platform. July and August require advance reservation—call 4–6 weeks ahead. June and September are easier. The hut closes for annual maintenance in November, reopening for the winter season in December. Phone ahead in shoulder seasons to confirm opening dates and whether the family is home; they run the farm as their primary work.
