About
Neue Regensburger Hütte sits at 2,286m in the Zillertal Alps, reached via the Zamser Grund valley west of Mayrhofen. The standard approach takes 2.5 hours from the hamlet of Zams. The hut works well as a base for ridge walks to Hochfeiler (3,510m) and traverses across the Zillertal crest. Direct access from Mayrhofen via the Zamserbach valley is steeper and takes 3 hours, but cuts road walking. Snow persists on the upper approach into June most years, making an ice axe useful for spring trips.
The hut is run by the Austrian Alpine Club (OeAV) and offers 80 bed spaces split across dormitories and smaller rooms. The kitchen serves three meals daily—dinner and breakfast included in overnight rates, lunch available to order. The hut has solar power, basic shower facilities, and composting toilets. Water comes from mountain springs. The bar operates all season. Open from late May to late September, with weekends only from September onwards. Half-board rates are standard for overnight guests.
Book directly with the hut by phone or email at least 6 weeks ahead for July and August weekends. Solo hikers and small groups can often find space on weekdays without advance warning. July is consistently full. The hut fills quickly on Saturdays in fine weather. Weekend capacity usually peaks by Friday afternoon. The approach trail requires solid footing and scrambling ability above 2,100m.
