Pendlinghaus

Pendlinghaus sits at 1537m on the Pendling massif above Ötztal in Tyrol. Reach the hut from Ötztal village (750m) via a steep forest trail in 2–2.5 hours. The approach climbs steadily through beech and spruce woodland to open alpine meadows. A shorter option starts from Habicht Alm on the Ötztal road, cutting the approach to 90 minutes but beginning higher. This is a genuine working hut, not a destination for casual visitors.
The hut operates year-round and sleeps 70 in mixed dormitories and small rooms. Meals are substantial: hearty dinners and full breakfasts fuel hikers heading for higher peaks. There's no shower facility, so wash in the cold stream or go unwashed—standard for Austrian working huts. The hut serves as a base for day walks across the Pendling ridge and for climbs onto Habicht and Wilder Freiger. The building sits on the main ridge with solid views across the Ötztal.
Call ahead to book, especially for weekends and July–August. The hut fills regularly with climbing parties heading up-valley. Winter access depends on snow conditions; confirm open dates before planning a winter trip. Arrive with a headtorch if you're hiking in late afternoon—the final stretch to the hut is steep and exposed.
