Rauhekopfhütte

The Rauhekopfhütte sits at 2,731m in the Zillertal Alps, accessible from the Zillertal valley via the Floite Alm route. Most parties approach from Mayrhofen or Finkenberg, hiking 4–5 hours to reach the hut. The final section gains elevation steeply but steadily through alpine meadows and scree. The location works as a base for ridge traverses and peaks in the surrounding massif, or as a transit hut on longer Alpine routes.
The hut sleeps around 80 people across shared dormitories. Meals are prepared daily; book dinner and breakfast when you reserve. The kitchen supplies packed lunches. Water comes from the mountain. The OeAV manages the hut and maintains it to standard Alpine Club standards—expect solid facilities without luxury. The hut typically opens late May through September, though dates vary; confirm before planning.
Book direct by email or phone at least 6–8 weeks ahead for July and August. July is the busiest month. May, June, and September weekdays are quieter. The hut can accommodate walk-ins if space exists, but don't rely on it in summer. Confirm your arrival time when booking, as the guardian needs to know when to prepare meals.
