Amstettner Hut

The Amstettner Hütte sits at 923m on the northern edge of the Ötscher-Tormäuer National Park in Upper Austria. Reach it from Lackenhof an der Ötschergräben by hiking 1.5 hours through beech forest via the marked trail. The hut serves as a basecamp for ridge walks and forest trails across the Ötscher-Tormäuer area. Access is also possible from Wienerbruck in roughly 2 hours, making it a logical stop on longer north-south traverses through the region.
The hut sleeps 40 people in mixed dormitories and has a smaller private room option. The OeAV Sektion Amstetten runs the facility year-round except for occasional closure periods. The kitchen serves hot meals including hearty soups and Austrian standards; vegetarian options are available. Sleeping bag liners are acceptable or can be rented. Basic shower facilities exist but expect cold water in shoulder seasons. The hut has no electricity after 22:00, so bring a headlamp.

Weekday visits in shoulder seasons rarely require advance booking. The nearest town with supplies is Lackenhof, 3km away; bring food for emergency backup.
