Cabane Allix

Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, France

About

Cabane Allix sits at 2,413m on the eastern edge of Parc National des Écrins, in the Ubaye Valley near Barcelonnette. The hut is a base for peaks around Pic de Cayolle and cols leading into the Mercantour massif. Access is via the Chemin de Myan trail from the Pra-Loup ski station (1,660m), a 2.5–3 hour climb gaining 750m. In summer, a rough track serves vehicles partway; most hikers start on foot from the village.
The hut is small and simple, managed by FFCAM. It sleeps around 20 people in dormitory quarters and offers basic meals: soup, pasta, cheese, bread, and hot drinks. Water comes from a nearby spring. There is no electricity or heating except a wood stove. The season runs June through September, depending on snow cover. Winter access is possible only for experienced mountaineers with full winter kit. This is a refuge for hikers tackling multi-day traverses across the Haute-Ubaye, not a hotel.
Book well ahead for July and August by contacting FFCAM Barcelonnette directly or via the national FFCAM website. Space fills quickly in summer. June and September are quieter. Bring a sleeping bag and expect cold nights even in summer. The hut does not accept online bookings through third-party sites; direct contact is required.
