Gite Béthanie

Gîte Béthanie sits at 1,650m in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, on the eastern flank of the Chaîne de la Chartreuse approach to higher ridges. The gîte lies a 2.5-hour walk from the nearest road access at Seyne-les-Alpes (1,200m). Trail conditions are well-marked but steep in places, gaining 450m of elevation. Most walkers approach from the south via the GR96 long-distance trail or cut across from the Vallée de l'Ubaye to the east.
Béthanie takes 15 guests in small dormitory and private rooms. Half-board (dinner and breakfast) is standard; packed lunches available on request. The kitchen serves straightforward mountain food. Water comes from a spring. No shower facilities—cold-water wash only. The gîte operates year-round but confirm winter access before booking, as snow can make the approach impassable. Phone signal is intermittent.
Book directly by phone or email at least 4 weeks ahead for July and August. The gîte closes for maintenance in late May most years; confirm dates before planning. This is a working gîte run by locals, not a commercial alpine hut, so expect basic comfort and a quieter experience than larger refuges. Winter visits require self-sufficiency and communication by phone in advance.
