Refuge de la Pare

Refuge de la Pare sits at 1832m in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, on the edge of Parc National des Écrins. The hut serves as a base for hikers crossing the region's rolling upland plateaus and accessing higher peaks to the north. Most approaches take 3–4 hours on foot from valley villages; ask locally for current trail conditions as routes vary seasonally. The hut sits away from major peaks, making it less crowded than refuges on classic traverse routes.
The refuge accommodates 17 people across simple dorm rooms. It operates a kitchen and serves evening meals and breakfast to guests who book ahead; bring your own food or arrange meals when you reserve. The hut is staffed seasonally from June through September, with limited access outside these months. Facilities are basic mountain standard: no shower, pit toilet, rainwater collection. Mobile signal is poor or absent.
Call ahead to confirm availability and book meals. The refuge fills most weekends in July and August; aim to call 1–2 weeks in advance for summer visits. Outside peak season, book at least a few days ahead. Confirm your arrival time when you call, as the guardian may be off-site tending to maintenance or stock runs.
