Refuge-Hôtel de Bayasse

Refuge-Hôtel de Bayasse sits at 1,475m in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, on the edge of Parc National des Écrins. The hut anchors trails through the Chaîne de Bayasse and serves as a base for approaches to Mont Pelat (3,051m). Reach it from Barcelonnette in around 2.5 hours on foot via the Vallée de l'Ubaye. Vehicle access exists to a nearby parking area, reducing the approach to 45 minutes on trail. The location gives you genuine mountain walking without the commitment of high-altitude hut culture.
The refuge operates year-round and accommodates 36 people in mixed dorms and private rooms. Half-board is standard: dinner, bed, and breakfast. The kitchen serves straightforward mountain food. Hot showers are available. Mobile signal is weak but present. This is a working hôtel first, mountain refuge second—expect solid comfort rather than alpine minimalism.
