Rifugio Savigliano

Rifugio Savigliano sits at 1743m in the Cottian Alps, on the Italian side of the border south of Mont Viso. You reach it in 2–2.5 hours from Pian del Sella car park near Crissolo, following a well-marked trail through beech and larch forest with steady elevation gain. The final approach crosses alpine meadows with views toward the Monte Monginevro massif. Most hikers use this hut as a base for day walks in the surrounding high pastures or as an overnight stop on longer routes through the Cottian range.
The hut has 40 beds in shared rooms and serves dinner and breakfast. Simple, solid mountain food—expect polenta, local cheeses, and hearty pasta. Water comes from a spring; heating is by wood stove. The season runs from late May or early June through September, depending on snow melt and staffing. Half-board (overnight, dinner, breakfast) is the standard arrangement, though you can arrange lunch packs for day excursions.
Book direct by phone with the Savigliano section of CAI. Call ahead especially for weekends and in July–August. The hut fills regularly during summer. You'll need basic Italian or patience; English is not guaranteed. They accept cash payments. Arrive by mid-afternoon to secure a hot meal.
