Rifugio Bozano

Rifugio Bozano sits at 2,453m in the Alpes-Maritimes, on the Italian side of the Franco-Italian border. The hut is reached from the Vallée de la Roya, typically via the Lac de Fremamorta approach. Allow 4–5 hours from the trailhead depending on your starting point. The route gains roughly 1,000m through rocky terrain and alpine pasture. The hut serves as a basecamp for peaks in the Mercantour massif and traverses across the high border ridges toward Mont Bégo.
Rifugio Bozano holds around 80 beds in shared dorms. The CAI (Club Alpino Italiano sezione Ligure) operates it as a staffed hut serving cooked meals—dinner and breakfast included with overnight stays. Showers are available. The refuge typically opens June to September; check directly as dates shift with snow conditions and staffing. Water comes from mountain sources. The hut is austere but functional, with straightforward alpine accommodation suited to walkers and climbers doing multi-day traverses rather than luxury seekers.
