About

Cabane des Aiguilles Rouges sits at 2,810m on the Aiguilles Rouges massif, east of Chamonix. The standard approach takes 3.5 hours from Lac Blanc (2,352m), following the GR route across alpine terrain with steady elevation gain. Most parties start from Chamonix valley and ascend to Lac Blanc first, adding 2 hours. The hut is accessible from late June through September when snow clears. Winter and shoulder seasons require mountaineering skills and crampons.

The cabin holds 70 beds in mixed dormitories. Evening meals and breakfast are served daily during the season—book your meals when you reserve beds. The hut provides drinking water but has no self-catering kitchen, so you must eat what's provided or bring ready-to-eat food. Cell signal is unreliable. Expect basic mountain hut conditions: no heating beyond body warmth from crowded rooms, basic toilet facilities, and cold water for washing. The location works as a base for day trips across the Aiguilles Rouges or as a transit point on longer traverses toward the Chamonix valley or Vallée de Chamonix hut circuits.

Contact the hut directly by email or phone to reserve beds. Book at least 2 weeks ahead for weekends and July-August. July and August weekends fill completely—aim for 4-6 weeks advance booking. Phone calls during daylight hours are most reliable since the hut has no permanent warden office. Confirm meal numbers when you book beds; cancellations should happen 48 hours before arrival.
