Cabin des Monts-Chevreuils

Cabane des Monts-Chevreuils sits at 2,315m in the Chaîne de la Vanoise, south of Modane in the Parc National de la Vanoise. Approach from the Hameau de l'Écot via the Vallée de la Maurienne. The walk takes 4–5 hours and gains 1,100m through open alpine pasture and larch forest. The hut is accessible from June through September; snow blocks the route in winter.
The cabin sleeps 30 people across simple shared dormitories. The guardian serves evening meals and breakfast during the season; bring lunch supplies or request packed meals. Water comes from a nearby spring. There is no electricity, heating, or WiFi—expect cold nights and minimal comfort. Toilets are basic. This is a true mountain refuge, not a hotel. The hut works best as a staging point for ascents of Mont Blanc de Cheiron (2,928m) or as a waypoint on multi-day tours through the Vanoise.
Book directly by phone well ahead, especially for July and August weekends when the cabin fills quickly. Solo travelers may find space more easily on weekdays. Arrive by early afternoon to secure a bed and have time before dinner service. The guardian can advise on weather and route conditions.
