Chalet de la Fauconière

Chalet de la Fauconière sits at 1,923m in the Chaîne de Belledonne, reached from the village of Allevard via the Gorges de la Fauconière valley. The approach is straightforward: 2.5 hours on a well-marked trail that gains 750m through forest and alpine pasture. The hut serves hikers working the Belledonne ridgeline or using it as a base for day walks in this less-crowded part of the northern French Alps.
The chalet is a simple mountain refuge run by FFCAM, offering 30 beds in shared dormitories. Meals are hearty and prepared daily—half-board is the standard arrangement. Cold water only; toilets are basic. The kitchen and dining area are warm and functional. Open year-round except for occasional closures in May and November, though summer (June to September) is when the hut operates reliably at full service. Winter access requires snow competence and self-sufficiency.
