Chalet de Savolayre C.A.S

Haute-Savoie, France
About
Chalet de Savolayre sits at 1,850m in the Aravis range, on the frontier between Haute-Savoie and Savoie. Reach it from Thônes (Haute-Savoie) via the Lac de Chéserys trail; allow 3-4 hours climbing steeply through pasture and forest. In winter the approach becomes technical. The hut manages the southern approaches to the Chaîne des Aravis and serves as a base for ridge traverses and ski touring. The C.A.S (Club Alpin Suisse) operates it, though it welcomes all visitors.
The chalet holds 31 beds across several small rooms. Dinners and breakfasts are available on request; bring lunch supplies or order packed lunches the evening before. The kitchen is basic. No WiFi. Water comes from a spring; the hut runs on gas and wood heating. The season runs roughly May to October, with variable opening in winter depending on snow conditions and staffing. Phone ahead before visiting outside peak season.
Book directly with the C.A.S or contact them through their website. July and August fill quickly—aim for 4-6 weeks ahead. June and September are quieter but still busy weekends. Winter access requires prior arrangement. The hut serves walkers equally well as climbers; the surrounding trails suit half-day outings or multi-day ridge treks through the Aravis.
