Chalet du CAF Contamines

Chalet du CAF Contamines sits at 1164m in the Chamonix Valley near Les Contamines-Montjoie, Haute-Savoie. The hut anchors a network of valley walks and approaches to higher peaks in the Mont-Blanc massif. Most users approach via the village of Les Contamines-Montjoie, which is 20km south of Chamonix town. From the village, count 1–1.5 hours walking to reach the chalet. This low elevation makes it accessible during shoulder seasons when higher refuges still have snow underfoot.
The chalet operates year-round and serves as a base for summer hiking and winter touring. It holds around 35 people across shared rooms. Half-board is standard (dinner and breakfast included); packed lunches can be ordered. The kitchen provides hot meals and drinks. Facilities include toilets, running water, and a small common space with a wood stove. Dormitory accommodation is basic but warm. Phone ahead to check winter opening dates and conditions on access paths.
