Refuge Albert 1er sits at 2,704m on the north side of Mont-Blanc massif in Haute-Savoie. The standard approach is from Chamonix via the Mer de Glace and Montenvers railway, then 3–4 hours on foot traversing the glacier and moraine to the hut. Alternative access from the Italian side (Val Veny) takes 4–5 hours. The hut serves as a base for climbing Mont-Blanc via the Trois Monts route and acclimatisation for high-altitude mountaineering.
