Refuge du Lac

Refuge du Lac sits at 1462m in the foothills south of Grenoble, accessible from the village of Sassenage. The approach takes 2–2.5 hours on foot from the carpark, following a well-marked trail through mixed forest and meadow. The hut serves as a solid base for day walks in the surrounding limestone massif, with routes ranging from 3 to 6 hours depending on your fitness and objectives.

The refuge holds 36 beds across mixed dormitories and a few private rooms. Meals are available on demand—half-board and full-board options work well if you're staying multiple nights. The kitchen provides hot water and basic cooking facilities if you want to self-cater. Water comes from the nearby lake. The hut opens year-round, though winter access depends on snow conditions and the team's availability; always call ahead before attempting a winter visit. There's no heating beyond a wood stove, and temperatures drop well below freezing from November through March.
