Refuge du Lac de Gers
4.3About
The refuge holds 18 beds across simple dormitory rooms and operates as a staffed hut serving dinner and breakfast. Water comes from the lake. The hut opens seasonally from June through September, depending on snow melt and weather. It functions as a base for day walks around the lake cirque and as a stopping point on longer traverses through the Chaîne des Fiz. Expect basic alpine hut conditions: no electricity, wood stove heating, and pit toilet facilities.
Contact the refuge by email or phone to book, particularly essential from July through August when the small capacity fills quickly. Book at least 4–6 weeks ahead for midsummer weekends. May and September offer quieter alternatives. Half-board (demi-pension) is the standard arrangement. Confirm opening dates before you travel, as early season conditions can delay access by several weeks.
