Auberge de la Cleida

Auberge de la Cleida sits at 1,800m in the Hautes-Alpes, in the Ecrins foothills south of Guillestre. The nearest approach is from the village of Aiguilles, roughly 90 minutes on foot via steady forest trails. You can also reach it by mountain bike or car on the rough access road, though many hikers prefer the walking route. The hut works well as a base for day walks into the surrounding ridges and as a rest stop on longer traverses through the southern Ecrins.
The auberge operates year-round and sleeps around 30 people in mixed and private rooms. Half-board (dinner, bed, breakfast) is the standard arrangement. The kitchen serves simple, filling food suited to active hikers. WiFi is available, which is uncommon at this elevation, though connection can be patchy. Basic shower facilities are provided. The hut is managed as a working farm inn, so the atmosphere is more local than Alpine-club formal. Stock supplies before arrival if you have specific dietary needs.
Contact the auberge directly by phone to book, especially for summer weekends and school holidays in July and August. Winter weekends fill quickly. Expect to book at least 2–3 weeks ahead for peak season. The hut is flexible about drop-ins outside busy periods, but calling ahead is always safer. Arrival is easier if you contact them the day before so they can have a meal ready.
