Cabin Forestière des Descendues

Cabane Forestière des Descendues sits at 1,240m in the Hautes-Alpes, deep in the Forêt de Dévoluy. The cabin lies on the GR 54 trail linking the Massif du Dévoluy to the Chaîne de Belledonne. From Superdévoluy, allow 2 to 2.5 hours to reach the hut on a well-marked forest path. Winter access depends on snow conditions and may require snowshoes January through March.
This is a basic mountain shelter—the name gives it away. Five beds, no more. There's a wood stove for heating, a water source nearby, and basic cooking facilities if you bring your own food. The hut is unmanned, so you're responsible for maintaining it. It works well as a waypoint on multi-day treks rather than a destination in itself. There's no phone signal, no guardian, and no meals served.
The cabin is open year-round but most useful June through September when the forest trails are dry. Book through the FFCAM (Fédération Française des Clubs Alpins et de Montagne) office in Gap or contact local hiking groups familiar with the Dévoluy. The hut fills rarely, but inform the FFCAM of your visit dates. Bring a sleeping bag, cooking gear, and food. Stock water during dry spells—the spring can run low in late summer.
