Posto Tappa Valfredda

Posto Tappa Valfredda sits at 2,256m in the Hautes-Alpes, accessed via the Vallouise valley. The hut lies on the approach to Pic Coolidge and serves as a base for climbs in the southern Ecrins massif. Reach it by hiking from Ailefroide in roughly 4–5 hours, following marked trails through alpine pasture and rocky terrain. The final approach steepens slightly but remains straightforward for mountain walkers.
The hut holds 12 beds in simple shared rooms. It provides drinking water, flush toilets, and showers—a rarity at this elevation. Half-board meals are available, with dinner and breakfast included in most bookings. Opening is typically June through September, though dates vary by season; confirm before planning. The hut is unguarded outside these months.
Book directly by email or phone as soon as your dates are firm. July and August fill quickly, sometimes months ahead. For June and September ascents, book at least 4–6 weeks in advance.
