Refuge des Fonts de Cervières

Refuge des Fonts de Cervières sits at 2,040m in the Hautes-Alpes, in the Parc National des Écrins. The hut is accessible from the Vallée du Champoléon. Most parties approach from the village of Champoléon, a 3–4 hour walk gaining 600m. Alternative access routes exist from neighbouring valleys for those linking longer traverses. The setting is high valley pasture with good views toward the Écrins massif.
The refuge holds 62 beds across multiple rooms and serves meals to residents and passing parties. Expect basic mountain hut food: substantial dinners, breakfast, and packed lunches. Water comes from the stream; there is no shower. The hut is staffed seasonally, typically June to September, with dates varying by snow melt and staffing. Winter access is possible but verify current status before travel.
Book directly by phone as soon as dates are confirmed, especially for July and August weekends when the hut fills quickly. Contact the refuge well in advance—at least 4–6 weeks for peak season. Many parties use this hut as a waypoint on longer Écrins routes, so midweek visits are often easier to accommodate than weekends. Confirm opening dates each year; early summer snow can delay operations.
