Refuge du Tourond

Refuge du Tourond sits at 1,712m in the Hautes-Alpes, on the border between Parc National des Écrins and Parc National de la Vanoise. The hut serves as a base for valley walking and mountain biking around the Tourond pass. Access is via the D902 road from Briançon; park near the pass and walk 10–15 minutes to reach the hut. Most visitors arrive by car rather than on foot, making this a good option if you want mountain hospitality without a dawn start from lower elevations.
The refuge is open year-round and holds around 30 beds in simple shared rooms. Meals are available for residents and day visitors. The kitchen offers hearty mountain food—expect cheese, charcuterie, and substantial evening plates rather than fine dining. Water and basic facilities are reliable. The hut is staffed during summer and weekends; contact ahead in winter to confirm opening. Wifi and charging points are available, a rarity at this elevation.
Book 2–3 weeks ahead for July and August weekends, especially if you need half-board (dinner and breakfast included). Phone or email the guardian directly—they respond quickly to small groups. Walk-ins are possible outside peak season but take a risk in summer. The pass road closes occasionally in winter; check conditions before driving up.
