Cabin de la Roize

Cabane de la Roize sits at 1,141m on the eastern flank of the Chaîne de Belledonne, in the Isère. It's a base for summer hiking and ski touring in the range that dominates the landscape between Grenoble and Chambéry. The cabin lies roughly 2 hours' walk from the nearest road access via the Vallée de l'Isère; approach routes vary depending on which direction you're coming from. Most parties ascend from the north via Col de la Loze or from the south through the Cirque de Seiglentine.
The cabin is a simple, unmanned refuge with basic shelter and space for around a dozen people. There's no guardian, no meals, and no water service—bring everything you need. A wood stove provides warmth, and you'll find a few bunks and basic sleeping platforms. Winter access is possible for experienced ski tourers; summer access suits hill walkers tackling the Belledonne ridge traverse or making circuits into the Parc National des Écrins foothills. The building is managed informally by local mountain users; conditions vary with the season.
Arrive self-sufficient. There's no booking system—it's first-come, first-served. Check locally in Grenoble or with FFCAM clubs for current access conditions and a key if the door is secured. Summer weekends and winter snow season bring more traffic. Respect the cabin's simple status: carry out what you carry in, leave it clean, and secure the door when you leave.
