About

Cabane du Piar sits at 1,210m in the Isère Alps, deep in the Parc National des Écrins. The hut is accessible year-round on foot from the village of Bourg-d'Oisans via the GR54 long-distance trail or from Les Deux Alpes. The walk takes 4–5 hours depending on your starting point and fitness. In winter, access is harder: snow can block the route entirely, so check conditions locally before attempting the approach.

The cabin sleeps 5 people total in basic mountain conditions. There is no shower or flush toilet—expect an outhouse and a small water source nearby. A guardian manages the hut during peak season (June to September) and provides meals on request; outside this window, the hut operates on a self-catering basis. Bring your own stove fuel and food if you visit in shoulder seasons. The hut has a basic kitchen setup and a small common room with a wood stove.

Book directly with the guardian or FFCAM Isère. Contact details are available through the Parc National des Écrins office or the local commune of Allemond. For July and August, book at least 6 weeks ahead as the hut fills quickly with mountaineers using it as a base for ski touring and climbing routes in the Écrins massif. The cabin closes mid-October to mid-May due to snow and access difficulty. Winter visits are possible but require avalanche awareness and proper equipment.
