Cabin de Valsorey

Cabane de Valsorey sits at 3,037m in the Mont-Blanc massif, on the Italian side of the border near Rifugio Quintino Sella. The hut anchors routes up Gran Paradiso and traverses toward Mont-Blanc. Approach from Pont near Aosta takes 5–6 hours on foot, gaining roughly 1,500m through pasture and scree. Summer access is straightforward; winter and early spring require mountaineering experience and avalanche assessment. A summer-only variant uses the Rifugio Vittorio Emanuele II as a stepping stone.
The cabin holds 52 beds in simple dorms. The guardian serves dinner and breakfast during the open season, typically June through September. Drinking water comes from snowmelt and mountain sources. Toilet facilities are basic. The hut operates as a working mountaineer's base rather than a comfort stop—expect no shower and minimal insulation.
Book directly by email or phone at least 6–8 weeks ahead for July and August. July and early August fill quickly with Italian climbers and Gran Paradiso parties. Shoulder months (June and September) have more space but weather becomes less stable. The hut operates under FFCAM guidelines. Confirm current opening dates before travel, as management and seasonal schedules can shift.
