Chalet de la Montagne D'en Haut sits at 1,610m in Savoie, serving as a base for hikes and ski mountaineering in the area. The hut is accessible year-round by car via a forestry road, making it one of the few Alpine refuges with vehicle access. From there, trails branch into the surrounding ridges and valleys. Summer hiking to nearby peaks takes 2–4 hours depending on your objective. Winter access requires skis or snowshoes when snow covers the approach.
The chalet accommodates around 50 people in shared dormitory rooms and a few private spaces. Half-board (dinner, bed, breakfast) is the standard arrangement; the kitchen prepares straightforward mountain food. Showers are available, though water can be cold in winter. The hut operates year-round, making it useful for both summer trail work and winter ski traverses. There is no mobile signal, but a landline phone is available for emergencies.
Book directly with the hut by phone or post well ahead of summer weekends and French school holidays (mid-July to late August). Winter weekends during the ski season (February–March) also fill quickly. The hut accepts groups but requires advance notice. Payment is cash or bank transfer; few mountain refuges take card payments on-site.
