Chalet de la Petite Moendaz

Chalet de la Petite Moendaz sits at 2,048m on the eastern edge of the Parc National de la Vanoise. Reach it from the Vallée de la Tarentaise via the village of Moendaz. The standard approach takes 3–4 hours from Moendaz itself, climbing through mixed forest and alpine pasture. You can also approach from the Chamonix valley side in 5–6 hours. The hut works well as a base for traverses across the park, particularly routes heading toward the Col du Palet or further toward the Île de la Vanoise massif.
The chalet operates as a simple refuge with capacity for around 20–25 guests. The FFCAM manages it. Expect basic dorm beds and a shared cooking situation rather than full catered meals—bring your own food or ask about meal arrangements when you book. Water comes from the natural spring nearby. The season runs mid-June through mid-September; conditions below 2,000m remain unreliable before late May. Winter access is possible for ski-mountaineers but only with appropriate experience and avalanche awareness.

June and September are quieter. The hut is small and often full during school holidays. Bring a sleeping bag and any specialist gear you need.
