Le Refuge du Mont Jovet

Refuge du Mont Jovet sits at 2,350m on the eastern flank of Mont Jovet in the Vanoise massif. Most hikers approach from the Vallée de la Maurienne via Modane or Aussois. The standard route climbs from Pont-d'Aussois (1,350m) in roughly 4 hours, gaining 1,000m steadily through alpine meadows and rock. The terrain is straightforward but relentless. In winter and early spring, avalanche risk closes the approaches; confirm conditions before you go.

The refuge operates as a simple mountain lodge managed by FFCAM. It sleeps around 30 people in dormitory rooms. Half-board is standard (dinner and breakfast included); packed lunches are available. Water comes from the mountain. The kitchen is basic but the food is filling. Toilets are outside. The hut opens mid-June through late September; exact dates depend on snow melt and staff availability. Winter access is impossible. This is a working hut for mountaineers, not a hotel.

Book direct by phone as early as possible. July and August fill completely; reserve at least 6 weeks ahead for weekend stays. June and September have more flexibility but weekends still book up. Phone ahead to confirm opening dates and current trail conditions, especially early in the season. Expect no mobile signal.
