Les Mozes

Les Mozes sits at 1620m in the Vanoise foothills of Savoie, on the approach to Mont Blanc and the Chamonix valley. The hut is reached from the village of Les Contamines-Montjoie via a 2-hour forest walk that gains 400m steadily through mixed woodland. In winter or when snow covers lower approaches, allow 2.5 hours. The hut serves as a staging point for Mont-Blanc attempts via the Trois Monts route and for traverses into the Parc National de la Vanoise.

The hut operates as a simple refuge managed by FFCAM. It sleeps around 30 people in dormitory rooms. Meals are served at dinner and breakfast; the kitchen provides straightforward mountain fare rather than fine dining. Water comes from a reliable source nearby. The hut is staffed year-round but conditions above 1600m mean most activity happens from June through September. Winter visits are possible but require self-sufficiency and avalanche awareness. The building is well-maintained and the guardian is accustomed to handling busy weekends during summer season.

Book direct with the hut or through FFCAM. July and August weekends fill quickly—contact 8 weeks ahead for reliable space. Mid-week slots remain available longer. The hut accepts cash and card payments. Tell the guardian your expected arrival time; the walk is straightforward but prone to delays in poor visibility.
