Refuge de Bonverdan

Refuge de Bonverdan sits at 2,340m in the Massif de la Lauzière, a limestone range south of Chambéry in Savoie. Most parties approach from Valmorel via the Chalets de Bonverdan track, a 4-5 hour hike gaining 1,100m. The valley floor is accessible in 2.5 hours from Celliers if you prefer a longer but gentler route. The refuge marks a junction point for climbers heading to Mont Blanc de Cheiron (2,928m) and hikers traversing toward the Isère massifs.
The FFCAM-run refuge holds 60 people in shared dormitories. Meals are included in full-board rates; evening dinners are simple but substantial. The hut has running water and basic sanitation. It operates year-round except May, when the custodian closes for spring maintenance. Winter access requires mountaineering skills and avalanche awareness—the approach becomes serious alpine terrain after snowfall. Cooking facilities allow self-catering outside the standard meal service window.
Book 4-6 weeks ahead for July and August weekends. Contact the hut directly for mid-season and winter availability. The refuge fills quickly during the summer scrambling season. Arrive before 18:00 for dinner service. Half-board and dormitory options suit different budgets. Winter ascents of Mont Blanc de Cheiron are possible from the hut with proper conditions and experience.
