Refuge de la Glière

Refuge de la Glière sits at 1,850m in the Tarentaise valley, on the eastern approach to the Vanoise massif. Access from the village of Champagny-en-Vanoise takes 2 hours on foot, climbing steadily through mixed forest before opening out to alpine pasture. The trail is well-marked and relatively straightforward. In summer, a shuttle bus runs from the valley, cutting the approach to 45 minutes of easy walking from the drop-off point. Winter access depends on snow conditions and requires mountaineering skills.
The refuge operates year-round as a simple base for hikers, climbers, and ski tourers. It sleeps 25 people in dormitory rooms and has a small private room. Kitchen facilities allow you to cook your own meals, though the guardian serves basic provisions and can prepare set dinners if ordered in advance. There are showers with hot water—a rarity at this altitude. Mobile signal is poor; bring a paper map. The hut sits on the GR55 long-distance trail and works well as a rest day or acclimatization stop before higher objectives in the Parc National de la Vanoise.
