Refuge de la Valette

Refuge de la Valette sits at 2,590m on the eastern flank of Parc National de la Vanoise in Savoie. The standard approach is from Pralognan-la-Vanoise via the Pont de l'Engloutie trailhead, a steep 4–5 hour hike gaining 900m. You can also approach from Champagny-en-Vanoise, though this route is longer and less direct. Both paths see regular mountain traffic and are clearly marked.
The refuge is a small operation run by Parc National de la Vanoise. It offers around 30 bed spaces in shared dorms. Meals are available on site—bring cash as card payment isn't guaranteed. There's no WiFi, so expect to disconnect. Water is available. The hut opens from June through September, with July and August seeing the heaviest use. This is serious high-altitude terrain: weather changes rapidly, and winter conditions can persist into June on approach routes.
Book directly by email well ahead of your visit. July and August demand booking 2–3 months in advance. June and September are quieter but still require advance reservations. The refuge fills quickly on weekends. Email is your only reliable booking method—there's no online system or phone line. Confirm availability and meal options when you contact them.
