Refuge de l'Orgère

Refuge de l'Orgère sits at 1,935m in the Chaîne de Belledonne above the Vallée de l'Isère in Savoie. The main approach starts from Saint-Pierre-de-Chartreuse or from Allevard. Most hikers reach the refuge in 3–4 hours on well-marked paths through forest and alpine meadow. The hut makes a logical overnight stop on traverses of the Belledonne range or as a base for day walks in the Parc National de la Vanoise foothills.
Refuge de l'Orgère is a working mountain hut managed by FFCAM. It sleeps around 30 people in small dormitory rooms. The kitchen serves dinner and breakfast to residents. Packed lunches are available if ordered in advance. Water comes from a spring on-site. The refuge has no electricity, so expect oil lamps and no phone signal. It operates year-round, though winter visits require prior arrangement and self-sufficiency with food and fuel.
Book well ahead during July and August—aim for 6–8 weeks minimum. The refuge is equally popular for autumn hikes when crowds thin but snow hasn't yet arrived. Contact by email or telephone to reserve beds and confirm meal service. The hut rarely turns away walk-ins outside peak season, but summer weekends fill fast. Winter closure depends on snow conditions; call ahead before attempting a winter ascent.
