Refuge de Presset

Refuge de Presset sits at 2,514m in the Savoie Alps, on the border between the Parc National de la Vanoise and surrounding high terrain. Most hikers approach from the Vallée de la Tarentaise side, with routes typically taking 3–4 hours from valley trailheads. The hut works well as a base for peaks in the Presset massif and as a waypoint on longer valley-to-valley traverses through this section of the range.
The refuge holds 30 beds in shared dormitories. It operates a kitchen for self-catering and typically provides evening meals and breakfast during the summer season (roughly June to September, weather-dependent). Water comes from mountain sources. The FFCAM manages the hut to standard Alpine refuge standards—basic but functional. Expect no electricity or hot showers; this is a working mountain base, not a hotel.
Book directly by phone as soon as your dates are confirmed. July and August fill quickly; aim to reserve 6–8 weeks ahead for those months. June and September offer more availability and quieter conditions. Confirm the exact opening dates each year with the hut keeper before travel, as weather and staffing affect the season. Bring a headtorch, warm layers, and a sleep sack or liner.
