Refuge des Conscrits

Refuge des Conscrits sits at 2614m in the Tarentaise valley of Savoie, within reach of serious day hikes across the Parc National de la Vanoise. The approach from the valley takes 3 to 4 hours depending on your starting point. Most climbers come via the hamlet of Champagny-en-Vanoise and gain the hut on a well-marked trail that climbs steadily through alpine meadow. The hut is accessible from mid-June through September.
The refuge holds 90 beds in dorms and smaller rooms. The kitchen serves a standard mountain meal at dinner and provides breakfast before early starts. You'll have running water and basic toilets; showers are not available. The hut is staffed year-round by FFCAM volunteers, who also manage it as a base for traverses into the Vanoise and climbs on nearby peaks. Bring your own bedding or rent sheets on arrival.
Book directly by phone as soon as your dates are set. July and August fill quickly—aim to call 8 to 10 weeks ahead if you're traveling in high season. June and September are quieter and easier to secure. The hut accepts groups of 8 or more by prior arrangement. Contact FFCAM directly for current opening dates, as conditions in early season can shift the opening by a week or two.
