Otto-Schwegler-Hut

The Otto-Schwegler-Hütte sits at 1,070m in the Allgäu Alps, making it an accessible base for walkers and mountaineers exploring this quieter corner of the Bavarian highlands. The hut lies on the main hiking routes between the valleys of Oberallgäu, typically reached in 2–3 hours on foot from nearby villages. Most climbers approach from the north via established valley trails rather than high passes.
The hut offers 80 beds across mixed dormitory rooms and a few small private chambers. Half-board (dinner and breakfast) is the standard arrangement; the kitchen provides hearty mountain food suited to active days. The hut opens year-round, though staffing is reduced in November and early December. Showers are available. The Otto-Schwegler-Hütte is DAV-managed, so members receive small discounts on bed rates. Non-members pay a small supplement.
Book by phone directly with the hut, especially for weekends and school holidays (Easter, summer vacation July–August, autumn half-term). July and August fill 6–8 weeks ahead. Single nights midweek outside peak season are usually available with less notice. Confirm your arrival time when booking, as the kitchen needs headcount for dinner. The hut accepts cash and card payments.
