Almgasthof Buchacker

Almgasthof Buchacker sits at 1,470m in the foothills of the Bavarian Alps, roughly 90 minutes' drive south of Munich. Reach it by car via Bad Tölz or on foot from the Benediktbeuern valley—most hikers approach from the Benediktenwand trailhead (45 minutes to the hut). The Buchacker trail network connects to routes up toward Benediktenwand (2,106m) and across to neighboring valleys, making it a solid base for 2-3 day loops in the northern limestone ranges.
The hut operates year-round and sleeps around 40 guests in mixed dormitory rooms and a few doubles. Meals are traditional Bavarian: hearty breakfasts, packed lunches on request, and evening dishes built around regional specialties and seasonal game. The kitchen handles vegetarian requests if you notify ahead. Showers and toilets are basic but clean. Cell reception is reliable. This is a working alpine farm as much as a hut, so expect cow bells and pastoral surroundings rather than mountain drama.
Book directly by phone or email at least 3-4 weeks ahead for summer weekends and school holiday periods (July-August, Easter, autumn half-term). July and August fill quickly. The hut suits families and casual hikers as much as walkers doing longer traverses—it's less crowded than the famous DAV huts on major ridge routes.
