Mitteralm

Mitteralm sits at 1200m on the northern slopes of the Rauschberg, in the Chiemgau Alps east of Rosenheim. You reach the hut by hiking 2 hours from Unterwössen village, following marked trails through beech and spruce forest. The approach is straightforward and suitable for walkers of mixed ability. From the hut, trails connect to Rauschberg (1,051m above) in 90 minutes and to neighbouring alpine pastures across the Chiemgau high country.
The DAV-managed hut has 54 beds in shared rooms, making it a reliable base for weekend trips and longer traverses. Showers are available—uncommon at this elevation and distance from roads. The kitchen serves hot meals at lunch and dinner, with breakfast included. The hut operates year-round, though demand peaks from June through September and during school holidays. Winter access depends on snow conditions; phone ahead to confirm opening.
Book directly by calling the hut. Reserve at least 8 weeks ahead for July and August weekends. May through June and September offer easier availability. The hut fills quickly for holidays and long weekends, so confirm your plans early. Single nights are possible outside peak season if space allows.
