Alpine Dairy Arvenutis

Malga Arvenutis sits at 1,516m in the Julian Alps above the Val di Resia in Friuli Venezia Giulia. Reach it from the village of Resia (470m): hike via the Predil Pass trail or take the higher route through Val Uccea. Allow 3–4 hours from Resia depending on your approach. The hut works as a base for traversing the Julian ridge and accessing peaks like Montaž (2,253m) and Kanin (2,587m).

This is a working alpine dairy that operates seasonally, producing cheese and milk products using traditional methods. It functions as a rifugio with basic accommodation—expect simple dormitory beds rather than hotel comfort. Meals focus on local mountain food: dairy products, soups, and hearty pasta dishes. Water comes from the spring. The hut operates roughly June to September, depending on snow and staffing.

Contact the hut directly before planning your visit. It remains quieter than major refuges on established routes, but July and August still bring steady traffic. Book accommodation at least two weeks ahead during summer. Check current opening dates before you leave—weather and herd management sometimes shift the season. The hut takes cash payments and limited card payments. Come for serious walking in quiet terrain, not for luxury facilities.
